The team arrived in South Carolina the Sunday before after some LONG flights and airport visits. It took a little bit (over an hour) to get our rental cars but then we were on the road with all our luggage and people (BONUS!). We turned on some great tunes (in my car at least) and started the drive to Pawley's Island with a quick stop at Sonic.
Our Leadertreks staff, Nancy, Michelle, and Torin, were super excited for our arrival and had dinner all ready for us. After setting up our rooms we headed into our first team time and then to bed to get some rest for the upcoming week.
Our work projects had to be done in the morning for the entire week because one of the projects was re-roofing a house (better to be done in the morning since it's hotter than the sun on that roof). The team did the following projects throughout the week:
- Putting a new roof on the main house
- Tearing down the old stairs and building new stairs
- Repairing the screens and boards on the front porch
- Painting the porch
- Repairing the drywall inside the house
- Putting on a new front door
- Skirting a trailer at another home
- Digging a drainage ditch for Teach My People (local organization)
Here's some fun pics from the work site:
After the work site each day, the students put on a Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the local kiddos. They did such a great job loving on the kids.
When we weren't working (& sweating) our butts off or playing the cutie kiddos, we did manage to play around a little too.
It was such a wonderful trip! God showed his love and care for us in some really unique ways and I think we were all changed and challenged by this week. Thanks for all of your prayers and support to get us back to Pawley's. We had a blast!!!
